Il Barocco- Palazzo Versace

Il Barocco- Palazzo Versace

When I think of a Summer Christmas in Australia I think of the hot sun, beautiful beaches and fresh seafood feasts. The Gold Coast has the first two everywhere you look; but finding the quality seafood to match is sometimes not so easy.

We were fortunate enough during our stay at Palazzo Versace this year to give their infamous buffet a try; where we quickly learnt that there is only one thing better than quality, local, fresh seafood for dinner... and that is getting all of the above AYCE (that’s how you say ‘All You Can Eat’ once you’re so full you can barely speak). Moreton Bay Bugs so fresh that I almost felt bad eating them (almost!), blue swimmer crab, proper Australian prawns, plump oysters and premium quality sashimi topped my list, and my plate.

Not only did we satisfy our fresh seafood cravings at the ‘Il Barocco’ buffet but we were also treated to a profound, exhaustive list of other tasty and quality options. Local and imported cheeses, charcuterie, cold and hot salads and appetisers, Bain Marie filled with homely hearty meals like roast chicken, pork belly and beef stew, vegetarian and other healthy options; even lamb cutlets and other Australian Christmas favourites were available, cooked to order!

If you have any self control and manage to keep some room for dessert then I have bad news; you won’t have enough room no matter how hard you have tried. There were so many dessert options that even my sweet-toothed husband couldn’t stomach half of the sweets (and yes he certainly tried!).

For someone like me who values quality above all else it is really quite rare that I find a buffet that is ‘worth the calories’. Il Barocco is certainly one of them, and if you are trying to squeeze into that bathing suit or lose those pregnancy kilos the seafood options will keep you on track!
