The Opulent Hotel
If you are a sweet tooth, you will have cravings for dessert almost every day. For me though; my cravings are for La Dolce Vita, (the sweet life) and there's no better way to get a taste of that then spending a weekend getaway at the beautiful Palazzo Versace. Built in 2000, from its inception it was one of the most beautiful hotels in the world, in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, and to top it off, it was one of the worlds first fashion branded hotels. Filled with stunning luxury furnishings and oozing opulence the hotel is timeless, which is good, because in 16 years it has barely aged a day.
The grand entrance boasts of a 750kg crystal Chandelier from Milan in the centre of the foyer and Italian imported marble from floor to ceiling with mosaics surrounding the hotel; simply breathtaking. The 65m man-made beach lagoon is just one of the features that makes this place so special. You can mix it with the rich and famous and rent your very own Versace Cabana for the day, complete with champagne, fruit and of course sunscreen, plush towels and pillows. If you really want to treat yourself, you can walk from the lagoon direct to the Versace Boutique store and go crazy with the credit card until it declines or melts (or your husband tells you to control yourself).
The hotel has 200 luxury rooms and suites as well as 75 condominiums (if you're lucky enough to afford one for yourself - they're not cheap and rarely on the market but worth every cent in my eyes!)
We stayed in a Lagoon-side room which across the hand crafted parquetry floors has sliding doors out to a private al fresco tanning area which overlooks the gorgeous lagoon and Medusa head fountains. So picturesque and relaxing, what more could you honestly want? The jetted spa bath is also a huge bonus especially for those romantics out there (*ahem* Gianni!). They also offer a 'Romance package' perfect for couples on anniversaries or honeymoons. You get a room filled with scented roses, 3 course dinner, massages, champagne and chocolate fondue... Your man won't have to lift a finger but can take all the credit! Mine went the extra mile spoiling me with flowers and a Valentino handbag!
It is not often that I can say I will visit a hotel purely to eat their incredible food. The Palazzo Versace is certainly the exception! Most weekends when Gianni and I are on the Gold Coast we will stop past for High Tea... it is a bit of a ritual that came about when we came here after our engagement party and I fell in love with their scones (which are to die for)! I also love their chicken club sandwiches for lunch. You get the benefit of sitting in their stunning foyer overlooking the gorgeous surrounds with crispy chips and cocktails; often with live performers on the grand piano.
If you are wanting to be a bit fancy though, you can try Vie Restaurant (on the boardwalk) or the signature Vanitas Restaurant near the lobby as it has some of the best produce I have ever tasted in Australia. How about an 800gram on-the-bone, salt-baked 'black market black angus' scotch fillet steak with a 7+ marble score? Pair it with wines from the sommelier and eat yourself into a luxurious food coma. Their talented head chef is clearly passionate about food and surprised us with new and wonderful flavours like the 'cheese toastie' ice-cream! Everything was delicious and I highly recommend this incredible restaurant for special occasions. Spoil yourself, you deserve it!
